My Journey to Empower Through Storytelling

I’m Kate Markland, and my life has been a journey of turning challenges into change. As a young elite rower, I pushed my limits in GB trials, learning resilience through every stroke. That drive carried me into physiotherapy, where I built and led four award-winning clinics over 20 years, transforming 5,000+ lives with patient-centered care. In 2014, I presented an ACL injury prevention program to the British Association of Knee Surgeons, blending science with impact.

But my story took a deeper turn when I faced personal adversity.

Inspired by our journey and my son, I co-authored The Adventures of Gabriel, a book that sparked StoryQuest™, a neuroscience-backed framework to empower through storytelling.

From reducing absenteeism in call centers to boosting student engagement in Bradford schools, I’ve seen stories unlock agency. My insights, featured on BBC Radio, Yorkshire Post, and in From Adversity to Agency (2025), drive my mission to inspire audiences worldwide.
